Promoting Interoperability and Open Access Metadata Exchange
JAPCH fully supports the Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting (OAI-PMH) to facilitate global dissemination and preservation of pediatric research data.

Overview

The Journal of Advanced Pediatrics and Child Health (JAPCH) implements the OAI-PMH standard to enable seamless harvesting and sharing of article metadata by indexing services, repositories, and aggregators. This protocol enhances the discoverability, accessibility, and interoperability of scholarly publications within open-access ecosystems.

What is OAI-PMH?

OAI-PMH is a standardized framework that allows metadata from academic journals and repositories to be collected (“harvested”) by external services. This mechanism enables efficient indexing of published materials, ensuring that JAPCH articles are visible through global databases, institutional repositories, and open-access platforms such as OpenAIRE and CORE.

JAPCH OAI-PMH Base URL

Metadata from JAPCH can be accessed via the following base URL:

https://www.pediatricshealthjournal.com/index.php/japch/oai

This endpoint supports standard OAI-PMH verbs including Identify, ListRecords, GetRecord, ListSets, and ListIdentifiers.

Supported Metadata Formats

JAPCH supports multiple metadata schemas to ensure compatibility with harvesting systems worldwide:

Format Namespace Use Case
Dublin Core (oai_dc) http://www.openarchives.org/OAI/2.0/oai_dc/ General metadata exchange and indexing
MARCXML http://www.loc.gov/MARC21/slim Library and bibliographic cataloging
MODS http://www.loc.gov/mods/v3 Enhanced descriptive metadata
PKP Metadata http://pkp.sfu.ca/oai_metadata OJS/PKP-specific interoperability

Benefits of OAI-PMH Implementation

  • Ensures compliance with international open-access interoperability standards.
  • Facilitates integration with institutional and subject repositories.
  • Increases citation visibility through metadata harvesting by aggregators.
  • Supports long-term preservation and open science transparency.

Metadata Elements Provided

The metadata harvested from JAPCH includes the following key elements:

  • Article title, abstract, and keywords
  • Author names and institutional affiliations
  • Publication date and DOI
  • Volume, issue, and pagination information
  • Creative Commons license type and URL
  • Language and subject classifications

Interoperability Standards

JAPCH’s metadata complies with the COAR Repository Interoperability Framework and OpenAIRE Guidelines for Literature Repositories. This ensures metadata consistency, multilingual support, and alignment with international repository networks.

Integration with Indexing Services

Through OAI-PMH, JAPCH’s metadata is harvested by:

  • OpenAIRE and CORE (UK)
  • BASE (Bielefeld Academic Search Engine)
  • WorldCat
  • Google Scholar
  • PKP Index
  • Dimensions and Semantic Scholar

Data Access and Reuse

Harvested metadata may be freely accessed, reused, or republished by third parties under the CC BY 4.0 License, provided that attribution to JAPCH is maintained. This supports the journal’s mission of open knowledge dissemination.

Technical Support and Compliance

The OAI-PMH interface is maintained by the journal’s technical team in coordination with the Public Knowledge Project (PKP). Compliance checks are conducted periodically using the OAI-PMH Validator to ensure full operational integrity.
