Preservation and Archiving Policy
The Journal of Advanced Pediatrics and Child Health (JAPCH) is committed to the permanent preservation and accessibility of its published content, following the global standards set by CLOCKSS, LOCKSS, PKP PN, and Portico.
1. Purpose of the Policy
This policy defines JAPCH’s strategy for safeguarding all published content from loss, corruption, or unauthorized modification. Our preservation plan ensures long-term access to pediatric and child health research for future generations of scholars.
2. Digital Preservation Principles
JAPCH upholds the principles of redundancy, integrity, accessibility, and authenticity in digital preservation. The journal’s infrastructure is designed to ensure:
- Multiple backups across geographically distributed locations.
- Continuous monitoring and integrity checks of digital assets.
- Adherence to open metadata standards (Dublin Core, OAI-PMH).
- Compatibility with long-term preservation networks and repositories.
3. Preservation Services and Networks
To guarantee the enduring availability of its content, JAPCH partners with leading digital preservation services:
- PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN) – OJS-based decentralized network for open-access preservation.
- CLOCKSS – Controlled Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe, ensuring permanent preservation through participating libraries.
- LOCKSS – Global archiving network that maintains verified copies across multiple repositories.
- Portico – Trusted digital preservation service for scholarly content.
4. Preservation Coverage
All components of published articles are archived and preserved, including:
- Full-text PDF and HTML versions of articles.
- Supplementary materials, figures, and tables.
- Article metadata, DOIs, and reference links.
- Editorial and peer review records (where applicable).
5. Backup and Redundancy Protocols
The JAPCH platform maintains daily, weekly, and monthly backups stored on secure cloud servers and offline repositories. Each backup is verified for integrity using checksum validation and stored across multiple geographic regions.
6. Data Migration and Format Sustainability
To ensure readability over time, the journal routinely migrates files to updated formats and follows Library of Congress Preservation Formats for digital sustainability. All files use open standards such as PDF/A and XML for compatibility with future systems.
7. Metadata and Indexing Preservation
All article metadata is stored in interoperable formats compliant with:
- OAI-PMH (Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting)
- Dublin Core and Crossref XML standards
- OpenAIRE and PKP Native XML schema
8. Repository Integration
JAPCH content is indexed and mirrored through multiple repositories and databases for redundancy and discoverability, including:
- Google Scholar
- PKP Index
- OpenAIRE
- BASE (Bielefeld Academic Search Engine)
- WorldCat
9. Post-Publication Preservation
Once an article is published, it is immediately submitted to all preservation partners listed above. In the event of a journal or platform discontinuation, these networks will continue to provide access to all published materials indefinitely.
10. Content Withdrawal and Retention
Withdrawn or retracted articles remain accessible with a clear notice of retraction or withdrawal. JAPCH follows COPE Retraction Guidelines to maintain record transparency while preventing data misuse.
11. Persistent Identifiers
Each published article receives a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) via Crossref, ensuring persistent linkage to the original version. Metadata includes author ORCID IDs and institutional identifiers to facilitate accurate referencing.
12. Responsibilities and Monitoring
The journal’s technical team monitors preservation logs monthly. Any anomalies or data corruption events are documented, investigated, and rectified immediately to prevent loss of access or authenticity.
13. Author Rights and Archiving Permissions
Authors retain copyright under the CC BY 4.0 License and are encouraged to self-archive their published work in institutional or national repositories with full citation to JAPCH.
14. Disaster Recovery Plan
In the event of a server failure or data breach, JAPCH’s disaster recovery protocol enables full restoration of content from multiple verified sources within 48 hours. Backup verification ensures minimal downtime and zero data loss.
